About Us

Nancy Goodman is licensed to practice law in Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina with extensive experience in estate planning, estate administration, fiduciary litigation, elder law, guardianships, conservatorships, business, and contract matters. She is a frequent lecturer on estate planning, estate administration, and trust matters, and serves as a registered mediator for probate matters for Fulton and surrounding counties.

Nancy is president-elect of the Stonewall Bar Association of Georgia, a member of the Emory University Gift Planning Advisory Counsel, the Atlanta Bar, and ElderCounsel.  She is highly engaged in the community and was chosen one of Atlanta’s 500 most powerful leaders by Atlanta Magazine in 2020.

Professional Experience

ATWOOD CHOATE, P.C.

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, GEORGIA ~ 2014 – 2016
  • Served as outside corporate counsel for a large Department of Defense contractor in the multi- modal, international shipping business. Drafted leases, employment agreements, subcontracts, corporate resolutions, and opinion letters. Advised the corporation on subcontractor disputes, corporate structure, public relations, union relations, customs/commerce regulations, and asset purchase matters.
  • Defended a very large commercial arbitration matter involving a contract dispute over non-competition, trade secrets and liability. Initiated matter in Federal District Court by successfully bringing a motion for a temporary restraining order. Subsequently moved to have matter referred to AAA arbitration before a three-member panel using the Federal Rules of Evidence. Handled counterclaims, depositions, interrogatories, requests for admissions, requests for the production of documents, motions, briefs, and more than 90,000 produced documents.
  • Negotiated a collective bargaining agreement with the ILWU at the Port of Long Beach on behalf of an employer. Managed on-going workplace disputes with the ILWU including breach of safety, wage and hour, discrimination, and wrongful termination matters.

SAINT SIMONS ISLAND, GEORGIA ~ 2010 – 2013
  • Corporate counsel for a group of domestic and international companies that manufacture products for big box retailers. Drafted corporate resolutions, employment agreements, product manuals, and other documents.
  • Defended product liability matters.
  • Advised on matters of corporate structure, customs, employment, liability, and contractual obligations.

MOORESVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA ~ 2001 – 2010
  • Developed a large and successful estate planning, probate and elder law practice. Clients included individuals with a large net worth and complex tax planning needs as well as those with unique assets.
  • Advised small to medium-size entities and the principals on matters of corporate organization, non-compete agreements, wage and hour laws, and best employment practices. Niche clients included medical professionals and NASCAR.
  • Briefed and argued an employment law matter involving an alleged breach of a non-compete agreement before the North Carolina Court of Appeals.
  • Developed and taught estate planning and probate continuing legal education courses.

  • Pro Bono work included the preparation of social security disability appeals, intake, and landlord tenant matters.

COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA ~ 1992 – 1995
  • Law Clerk and then Counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee, Joint Committee for Judicial Screening and Hunley Commission.
  • Drafted legislation, researched proposed legislative changes, and investigated both judicial candidates and sitting members of the judiciary.
  • Negotiated with the U.S. Navy regarding the raising, ownership and preservation of the CSS H.L. Hunley, the first submarine to sink a ship.
  • Argued a matter before the South Carolina Supreme Court as a first-year law graduate.
